Interiors

Artist Statement
My recent body of work investigates the conceptual and emotional threshold between presence and absence within interior spaces. Having transitioned to the visual arts after a career rooted in classical music, I treat the canvas as a site where formal composition and intuitive improvisation collide.

This recent production centers on quiet, ordinary domestic environments. Rather than rendering literal narratives, these spaces are treated as psychological landscapes. I am fascinated by the way everyday objects and empty rooms can hold the heavy, lingering resonance of a missing figure. Through careful attention to geometry, light, and atmospheric tension, the works explore how an empty chair, a doorway, or a specific cast shadow can speak to themes of belonging, memory, and the absent body.

My technical approach relies heavily on the physical process of building a surface. Much like a musical score, my painting involves rhythm, repetition, and a meticulous layering of material. By contrasting sharp, controlled structures with looser, atmospheric textures, I seek to slow down the viewer's gaze. These pieces do not offer definitive answers; instead, they function as visual compositions designed to create a quiet space for feeling, resonance, and deliberate contemplation.
